Welcome ๐ฆ๐งboys and girls to another class. Today, we will be going on an adventure where we will be exploring the topic: Multiples, Common Multiples and Lowest Common Multiples of Numbers. Read all information carefully before writing your answers. Show all working.
1. Multiples
A multiple is what you get when you multiply a number by a whole number (1, 2, 3, 4...).
- Example: The
multiples of 3 are: 3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18... (3x1, 3x2, 3x3...).
2. Common Multiples
Common multiples are multiples that are the same for two or more numbers.
- Example: Multiples
of 4: 4, 8, 12, 16, 20, 24. Multiples of 5: 5, 10, 15, 20,
25. The number 20 is a common multiple of 4 and 5.
3. Lowest Common Multiple (LCM)
The LCM is the smallest number that is a multiple of two or
more numbers. (It is also called the Least Common Multiple).
- Example: Multiples of 2: 2, 4, 6, 8. Multiples of 3: 3, 6, 9. The LCM of 2 and 3 is 6.
