๐ŸšŒ๐ŸšŒPrime Factorization- Writing the Answer in Index Notation๐ŸšŒ๐ŸšŒ

Welcome ๐Ÿ‘ฆ๐Ÿ‘งboys and girls to another class. Today, we will be going on an adventure where we will be exploring the topic: Prime Factorization-Writing the answer in Index NotationRead all information carefully before writing your answers. Show all working.

Prime Factorization is finding which prime numbers multiply together to make the original number.

Index Notation/Exponential Form) is a short way of writing a number multiplied by itself several times. Instead of writing 2 x 2 x 2 =
. The small number (3) is called the index or power. It tells us how many times to multiply the big number by itself. Examples๐Ÿ‘‡

Examples:

Example 1: The number 12

  • Step 1: 12=4×3

  • Step 2: 4=2×2

  • So, 12=2×2×3

  • Index Notation: Since there are two 2s, we write 22.

  • Answer: 12=22×3

Example 2: The number 18

  • Step 1: 18=6×3

  • Step 2: 6=2×3

  • So, 18=2×3×3

  • Index Notation: Since there are two 3s, we write 32.

  • Answer: 18=2×32

Example 3: The number 72

  • Step 1: 72=8×9

  • Step 2: 8=2×2×2 and 9=3×3

  • So, 72=2×2×2×3×3

  • Index Notation: Three 2s = 23. Two 3s = 32.

  • Answer: 72=23×32
